Well, I suppose next year is a bit of misnomer because it technically starts in July, but it’s where he’ll be and with what, so I think it works.
Ben’s First Grade Year

History/Geography: Daily Geography Practice: Grade 2; Magic Tree House Research Guides; The Usborne Internet-Linked Encyclopedia of World History (we’re making up our own history program, because nothing fits my philosophy of history well).
Language: Song School Latin
Art: Primary Art: It’s the Process, Not the Product
Piano: Phonics for Piano
And in an odd turn of events, I’ve added religion to our curriculum. I’m not completely happy with the approach our church has been taking in Sunday school, and I wanted to make sure that both kids get a much stronger sense of who Jesus is and why he’s important than what they’re currently getting. So, we’re giving:
Telling God’s Story: Student Guide and Activity Pages, Year One (Telling God’s Story)
With the instructor’s guide: Telling God’s Story: Instructor Text and Teaching Guide, Year One (Telling God’s Story)
We settled on this after reading the Parent’s Guide that accompanies the material:
Telling God’s Story: A Parents’ Guide to Teaching the Bible (Telling God’s Story)
I still consider myself a secular homeschooler. I don’t want religion in my history or in my science, math or English, but I want to make sure that both kids have a strong foundation in the faith of our family’s choice. We’ll do a comparative religions thing when they’re older (we have some great guest “teachers” planned), but, for now, this is the direction I want to go.

We’re using a lot of the same materials next year! Like you, I’m sort of reluctant to include religion, but I just really really liked Telling God’s Story.
